“Coaching”, “corporate training” and operating a training institute are not automatically the same regulated activity. The setup should follow the programme, audience, certificates and delivery model rather than a broad education label.
Define what the learner receives
List whether the business provides one-to-one coaching, internal corporate workshops, short professional courses, vocational training, exam preparation or a structured education programme.
Ask whether certificates are issued and whether they are presented as attendance records, professional credentials or recognised qualifications.
Check the education authority where applicable
Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) publishes permit frameworks for training institutes and certain short-course activities. Abu Dhabi has its own education authority and requirements. Do not apply one emirate’s training route nationally.
Separate coaching from regulated education
A personal or executive coaching service may sit closer to consultancy depending on the exact activity and authority, while a training institute with advertised courses, trainers and certificates can trigger a different framework.
Confirm the economic activity and regulator before signing a training facility or publishing course claims.
Review premises and trainers
Training activities can have facility, safety, trainer or programme requirements depending on the authority. Online delivery can change the operating model but does not automatically remove licensing or consumer obligations.
Control course claims and refunds
Marketing should accurately describe learning outcomes, certification status, fees and cancellation/refund terms. Do not imply government accreditation or guaranteed career outcomes without evidence.
Handle learner data appropriately
Registrations can collect identity, payment and performance information. Map what is needed, who can access it and how long it is retained.
The decisive question is not whether the founder calls the service coaching. It is what the business delivers, how it markets the programme and which authority treats that activity as regulated training.
